Moe Abdou: Can Your Soul Heal Your Business?

Moe Abdou

Moe Abdou

I was asked to interview Master Sha during one of his more advanced programs in celebration of his latest book, Soul Over Matter. This book was of particular interest to me, as for the first time, it deliberately focused on the integration of spiritual principles and business. It was a collaborative effort with Adam Markel, and as you’ll find out during this conversation, Master Sha will leave you convinced that what’s good for your soul, is equally good for your business, starting with your finances.

Here are a few the questions that lead our discussion:

  • Why abundance is more easily desired than achieved
  • Can you truly have unlimited abundance?
  • Learning to choose and trigger your soul
  • Why scarcity is a self-induced relationship
  • Learning to embrace the money conversation
  • The difference between goals and intentions
  • How much of business success has to do with energy

Gordon Roddick: Business Can Be a Force for Good

Gordon Roddick

Gordon Roddick

Doing good for others is a key ingredient in a successful business. Just ask Gordon Roddick.

Roddick helped found The Body Shop with his wife Anita in 1976, creating a cosmetics company that produced and retailed natural beauty products. As a forerunner of ethical consumerism, the UK-based company was one of the first to prohibit the use of ingredients tested on animals as well as one of the first to promote fair trade with third world countries. In March 2006 – 18 months before Anita died – L’Oreal bought The Body Shop, which had expanded from its humble beginnings as a small shop in Brighton to 2,000 stores worldwide.

During his time as the Body Shop’s co-chairman, Roddick quietly founded and funded social organizations that have changed thousands of lives. In 1991, along with John Bird, Roddick funded the launch of The Big Issue to fight homelessness. An active supporter of community and social enterprise, Roddick co-founded 38 Degrees, an online activist organization that campaigns for fairness, human rights and peace as well as preserving the planet and deepening democracy in the UK. And don’t forget the sweet stuff — he is the driving force behind Divine Chocolate, a fair trade chocolate company that benefits cocoa farmers in Ghana.

Roddick spent time with Master Sha, sharing his world-changing philosophy: Business can be a force for good.

MASTER SHA: What was the drive behind creating The Body Shop?

GORDON RODDICK: Anita was a history teacher and great at doing all kinds of research. I was trained in agriculture. When she looked at the industry, she was angry at the price of the products. When you would divide it up, it was about advertising packaging and not about ingredients. She wanted to reverse it and put all into the ingredients and not the advertising or packaging. She wanted to put it in simple containers that don’t cost anything. People raved about it from day one. This was an approach that said to the consumer: “We love you and want to bring you the best. We don’t have to tell you it is the best, but try it.” The whole notion of putting quality into the ingredients was what drove us.

MASTER SHA: So it came out of a desire to serve people and give value to what they were receiving?

GORDON RODDICK: The shop would become a social center. They would come and say hello and talk. In year two and year three we added three or four shops. Then people began to take us seriously. By the time we passed year eight or nine, I think we had 60 shops. Then people took us seriously. We began buying ingredients from producers overseas: India, Sri Lanka, Nicaragua and all over the world.

If we were to buy ingredients from overseas, we wanted the people who produced the ingredients to be well paid so they could educate their children, like us. MBAs are taught how to cut costs. The first person they go to is the supplier to cut costs.

MASTER SHA: What is the key to the success of your company?

GORDON RODDICK: It was always the people. It was always those who we employed. We always said that we advertised our employees and people turned up. It was the ingredient of the great people. We did not employee people for expertise. We employed them on their humanity.

It was always obvious to us if you had people who loved what they did, you did not need to worry about profit. It was not a word we used. We told shareholders they were not number one, but the employees are number one, then franchisees and then shareholders.

MASTER SHA: Where did the customers fit in?

GORDON RODDICK: They were hugely important. Almost in a way they were the end product of great people. You would always get great customers.

Great franchisees were key to the whole thing. The franchisees were shareholders or owners of their individual shops. As a united front, they were incredibly powerful. It kept us on our toes. It has always been people.

We did things that no one else would dare. We came out against the Iraq war. We had huge complaints about being involved with politics. Politics is a part of life. You can’t tell me Texaco and more are not involved in politics.

MASTER SHA: You have applied such ancient wisdom.

In the I Ching, an ancient teaching is that we are living in Heaven, Mother Earth and a human being. The nature of Heaven is changing. The clouds and weather are always changing. Mother Earth does not change too much. The feng shui is earth wisdom.

That is why we need to find a good place to build a foundation. Heaven changes. Harmony is the key for success.

You are speaking of team work. You said that human beings are the key to success. You have harmonized people who love and support one another. In the three layers, human beings are the key. There is unity here. You have applied ancient wisdom, which is in your heart and soul. This is great wisdom.

What wisdom would you give to someone who wanted to start their own business?

GORDON RODDICK: Be brave, passionate and break the rules because they are not worth reading.

The conversation ends with a moving prayer of gratitude for being alive.

Nassim Haramein: Unity Theory Meets Ancient Wisdom

Master Sha and Nassim Haramein explore the commonalties of unified theory and ancient wisdom. Nassim Haramein is the founder and director of research of the Resonance Project Foundation, and leads teams of physicists, electrical engineers, mathematicians and other scientists to explore the frontier of unification principles and their implications. William Gladstone on Gratitude: Master Sha and the Power of Thanking Others

William Gladstone

William Gladstone

Through working with Master Sha, I’ve learned how gratitude is a powerful element of healing.

This past month I was able to experience four events with Master Sha — a preview of the 13-part television series Soul Healing Miracles with Master Sha; a special taping at the home of Adam and Randi Markel, the owners of Peak Potentials; a special healing and calligraphy demonstration at the Peninsula Hotel in Beverly Hills and a free event held at Agape International in Culver City, Calif. All four events were full of light and positive energy, and all four demonstrated the power of gratitude.

Recently, I have been asked to organize an event called Earth Gratitude Day, which will take place on April 22, 2016. People worldwide will already be celebrating Earth Day on April 22, but this special event adds the powerful element of gratitude. It is anticipated that more than five million people will participate online in Earth Gratitude Day. The inspiration for Earth Gratitude Day comes from the film Tapping the Source, in which more than 120 authors, actors, health experts, visionary leaders, business leaders, artists and athletes were interviewed. When asked what is the key to happiness, the majority responded that some form of expressing gratitude and being of service to others were the two most important elements in their everyday lives. This intrigued me, and I have since read reports by scientists at major universities that expressing gratitude has been among the highest correlations with happiness. Recent neuroscience studies have found that on a biological level, there are chemical changes in human beings who express gratitude on a daily basis.

Gratitude in Action

Observing Master Sha, who performed healings at the events in California, I was reminded that the expression of gratitude is at the core of Master Sha’s healing practice. At the end of each of his forgiveness practices, Master Sha thanks the Divine for healing. Master Sha also asks everyone to remember to say “thank you, thank you, thank you” at the end of each healing session. Master Sha is not asking people to thank him. He is asking people to thank the Source, whether they believe in God or just a scientific principle for all that they receive. This gratitude is not just for the healing experience, but for life itself. Master Sha always thanks the Divine and the Tao whenever he does a healing. For major healings he does more than just express gratitude in words — he has members of his family in China burn offerings of thanks to the higher beings that he believes provide the healings.

Another lesson related to gratitude that can be learned from Master Sha is his constant expressions of gratitude to all who serve him. As his literary agent and biographer, Master Sha is constantly thanking me and giving me public appreciation for my small role in helping him with his mission. Master Sha thanks everyone who assists him whether their contribution is large or small. At Agape, Master Sha did not just thank Rev. Michael Beckwith, the founder of Agape, for the opportunity to utilize the Agape Sanctuary Hall, but also all those who worked behind the scenes. Master Sha always thanks his Certified Master Teachers and those who have volunteered to experience his healings. After every healing, he always asks the audience to give a round of applause to the healing participants, which is just another way of thanking those who are willing to receive the healings.

The depth of Master Sha’s gratitude to his own teachers can be observed in almost every encounter. Master Sha comes from a traditional Chinese background so his expression of gratitude is to bow down to his teachers. The video of Master Sha receiving a blessing and knowledge of sacred calligraphy from his 103-year-old calligraphy teacher shows Master Sha bowing down to her in deep reverence for several minutes. When Master Sha is successful in healing someone, he immediately smiles and thanks the Divine. He often bows down to Divine spirit in deep gratitude and reverence and constantly reminds all who listen that it is the Divine who heals and not him.

Saying Thank You

Whether you believe in Master Sha’s ability to perform healing miracles or not, there is much that can be learned from observing the role of gratitude in his life and his healing mission. It has been stated by the German theologian Meister Eckhart centuries ago that the only prayer needed isthank you. Observing Master Sha is a constant reminder of this truth, and for all the joy and blessings he has given me over the last several years representing him, I am delighted to offer a formal thank you here.

No doubt there are many people in your own life to whom you can never adequately express your gratitude. Perhaps it is a parent, sibling or even your own child. I strongly suggest that sometime later today or tomorrow you contact one of these angels in your own life and just say, “Thank you.” If they ask you why you are thanking them, perhaps you should tell them because you are grateful they are in your life. Gratitude does not have to be complicated. Thank you really is enough.

Thank you for reading and have a wonderful day.

William Gladstone, a literary agent and author, is considered an international expert on indigenous cultures and the meaning of 2012. He is also co-producer of the film, Tapping the Source. Gladstone is the host of the PBS special Soul Healing Miracles with Master Sha. Visit www.12TheBook.com.

Marilyn Tam on Happiness: 6 Ways to Make You Happier

Marilyn Tam

Marilyn Tam

“Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
— Abraham Lincoln

“Happy,” the very word sounds good, and well, happy. Happiness is what we wish others on their birthdays, anniversaries, and other important occasions. Yet the overall level of happiness, especially for women, has decreased in the past 40 years. It seems the more we say we value it, the less of it we experience as a culture. Why?

Perhaps we are misled by the language in our Constitution about our right to “the pursuit of happiness.” Happiness is best experienced in the now, not by chasing after it. We are conditioned to strive for things, while actually the best way to achieve happiness is simply to be happy. This is not a riddle; happiness is a choice. How do we choose happiness?

First acknowledge that negative and unexpected things happen to all of us; by recognizing that we are not singled out will already help us feel better. Keep in mind that wonderful surprises can be in store for us, too — the law of attraction helps make that happen.

Everyone comes into the world with a happiness set point, some are set on the more positive side, and others on the negative end of the scale. Good news, you can change your set point! Here are six ways to shifting your mood and perspective, all can be done almost any time, and with practice they will shift your outlook in life.

1. Do something kind for someone else.
Altruistic behavior helps others and yourself, too. Helping others enhances our self-esteem and sense of life purpose, both of which are key factors in increasing our happiness. Make a habit of being considerate and giving to others. It will reward you with an increased happiness set point.

2. Meditate.
In meditation our cognitive processes are literally rewired so that we are calmer and happier. Our brains, instead of being rigid, are actually malleable and respond to our mindful efforts to improving our moods and attitude. Eight weeks of daily meditation have been shown to increase our happiness. Dedicate time, even if it is only 10 minutes each day, to quiet meditation, it will improve your sense of well-being.

3. Give gratitude.
Make it a habit to find reasons to give thanks. Especially when you are feeling down or sad, change your mood by searching for and giving thanks for the good things in your life. Looking for the existing good will increase your feelings of happiness by putting your focus on the things that bring you joy.

4. Do yoga, tai chi and exercise.
When we move our bodies, positive endorphins are activated and soon we’re feeling better! Spend regular time stretching mindfully and moving. Your body and mind will thank you.

5. Smile.
Our facial expressions influence our moods. When we are frowning, we feel pain deeper and are sadder. Just moving your facial muscles into a smile will trigger an internal process of shifting your mood to a happier one. Soon, you will feel better and the smile will come naturally from within.

6. Go out into nature.
Nature is healing. When we are connected with nature by being around trees and plants, earth, mountains, rivers, lakes, or ocean, we are soothed and comforted. Even photos of natural scenes reduces our stress and enhances our well-being

There are times when it is natural to feel sad. We grieve the loss of loved ones, for broken dreams and other meaningful reasons. The six things outlined above can help you retire the grief. Realize that life is a journey, and that things happen for reasons that we may not understand at the time. To be happy, hold a longer perspective and face each day with equanimity. Trust that life is unfolding as it does for good reasons, and you will be happier each day. To your growing happiness.

“Each morning when I open my eyes I say to myself: I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn’t arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I’m going to be happy in it.”
— Groucho Marx
